Today, the Montreal Canadiens have officially announced former Florida Panthers and Ottawa Senators head coach, Jaques Martin, as the new face on the bench. "He did really well in Ottawa and as GM in Florida and the people will be happy here (in Montreal) because he's bilingual", said tough guy forward Georges Laraque. It will be the first time the Habs have hired a coach with NHL experience since Jacques Demers in 1992-93.
The club now faces questions on impending UFA's Alex Kovalev, Saku Koivu, and the much anticipated defensemen this summer, Mike Komisarek. Now that the coach is out of the way, the team can focus on what they want for their club.

Schneider to the Habs, More to Come?
The Montreal Canadiens have dealt 2nd and 3rd round draft picks to the Atlanta Thrashers for the services of Mathieu Schneider. Schneider currently has 4 goals and 15 points in 44 games this season. It’s the first major move on route to the trade deadline and things will only heat up from here.
With Schneider now off the market, players like Kaberle, Kubina, Morris, Boynton and others will start popping into the rumors more often. Consider this a domino affect. Schneider’s trade will open the door to other defenseman and teams gaining leverage for their key players on the market.
With so many teams in the playoff hunt the amount of buyers this deadline is huge in recent history. This could very well be the most explosive trade deadline in years.
